all と both
- all は「すべて」、both は「（\(\boldsymbol{2}\) つが）両方とも」の意味を表します。代名詞の他に、形容詞のはたらきもします。

- 単独で用いるとき、「人」を表す場合は、 everybody [-one], 「もの」では everything が一般的です。また、これらは単数扱いにします。

- 限定詞は、名詞（句）を修飾して意味を限定することばで、冠詞 (a / an ...)、指示代名詞 (this / that ...)、人称代名詞の所有格 (my, his ...) などをいいます。
- of がつかない形を all の形容詞的用法といいます。結びつく名詞は、単数、複数どちらも可能で、動詞は名詞の数に合せます。of は省略できますが、人称代名詞が続く場合は省略できません。

| all the people と all people | |
| the がつくと、「ある特定の人々全員」を指し、all people では、「人はみな」のように一般の人々全員を指します。 | |

| 動詞が \(be\)動詞や助動詞の場合は、all はふつう、そのあとに置き、一般動詞の場合は、その前に置きます。 |

| 代名詞は「両方とも」の意味を、形容詞は「両方の」という意味を表し、常に複数扱いになります。 | |

| 「\(A\) と \(B\) の両方とも」という意味を表します。\(A\) と \(B\) には、品詞やそれに相当する句などの同じ要素がきます。 また、この形が主語に用いられる場合は、複数扱いになります。 | |
